Upholstering a Subaru BRZ Steering Wheel for Wheeler Dealers
I’ve been a fan of Wheeler Dealers for years. Long before I ever picked up a needle or started EDGE Automotive. I never imagined that one day I’d be on the show myself.
But in Season 18, Episode 04, that’s exactly what happened.
I was asked to reupholster a steering wheel for a Subaru BRZ, and of course, I jumped at the chance. The experience was completely different to a typical day in the workshop. Instead of working solo, suddenly I had a crew of sound and camera operators, show runners, and Mike Brewer himself in the unit with me. It was a full-on filming setup — but everyone was incredibly down to earth and welcoming. We had a proper laugh throughout the day, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
Before the crew arrived, I had already finished a wheel to make sure we had something ready for filming. Once they were there, I walked them through the step-by-step process of how I reupholster a steering wheel, showing the level of care and precision that goes into each job. It was great to be able to share the craft on camera with such a wide audience.
One of the highlights was being taken out to lunch with the crew — a small detail, but one that added to how relaxed and friendly the whole day was.
Appearing on Wheeler Dealers also gave me the push I needed to finally start my YouTube channel. It reminded me that there’s an audience out there who’s genuinely interested in the craft, the details, and the process behind custom automotive upholstery.
