This 1969 VW Beetle has been brought into the modern world with its new custom upholstery interior.
The car is fitted with aftermarket front seats known as ‘Procar’ made by Scat – the original bench seat and door cards where kept. Dan came to me with only the colour of his car and a small idea of what he wanted. I showed him examples of what he could have and different materials he could use and we soon came up with the idea of using a diamond quilting stitch.
[singlepic id=55 w=320 h=240 float=left]We continued to talk about where we could use the quilted finish, settling for a strip through the doorcards to tie in with the seats. Finally black leather, dark grey alcantara and a blue stitch were chosen to match Dan’s VW Bug. With all the details in hand, the retrimming began.
The rear bench had a panel of quilting with a single stitch either side to ‘border’ the quilted finish, we then took this same design onto the door panels and then the head rest of the Procar seats – all this tied the whole interior together and the quilted finish wasn’t over done, we think we got the balance just right. The door panels where bound with black binding to finish the edge off.
Overall a revamped interior for a classic car.
